Academic Year 2024–2025 Scholarship

The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Vitreoretinal Society announces a scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year for postgraduate studies abroad in surgical retina and ocular oncology (choroid and retina).

One scholarship will be awarded to an ophthalmologist accepted by a centre abroad. The Society will provide a monthly allowance of €500 for one year.

Detailed Terms and Conditions:

• Applicants must have completed the required period of specialist training and obtained a specialist qualification recognised by the Greek State.
• Applicants must have been accepted into a postgraduate or fellowship programme with a total duration of at least one year.
• The programme must commence between 1 March 2024 and 1 March 2025. Applications with similar commencement dates will be considered if an insufficient number of applications is received within the above period.
• Applicants must submit two certified copies of their original specialist qualification, their CV, and a letter of acceptance from a centre abroad. The letter must include the centre’s details, the title of the postgraduate programme, and its commencement date, and must be accompanied by an official translation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Application files must be submitted electronically to the Society’s email address and by courier to its postal address no later than 5:00 p.m. on 31 October 2024.
• Applications will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Vitreoretinal Society, including the Immediate Past President. The result will be announced during the following month, November 2024.
• If the Society receives more applications than expected, the selection process will also take into consideration the terms of the position offered, including the monthly remuneration provided, the applicant’s family financial circumstances, and their CV. Applicants may therefore be asked to submit additional supporting documents clarifying the above.
• The scholarship recipient will receive €500 per month for one year from the commencement of the programme. The amount will be paid into a Greek bank account in four quarterly instalments. Continued participation in the programme will be confirmed by email with the recipient and, where necessary, the programme supervisor at the beginning of each quarter.
